Back to the Future - Muskoka
September 06, 2012
SUPER EARLY Friday AM I'll catch the shuttle again to head to Phoenix and then off to Toronto for the Muskoka 70.3. It will be a return to the site of the 1992 ITU World Championships. I raced as a junior for the US team. Alongside Hunter Kemper, Randall Stone, Abe Rogers, Ryan (almost wrote Michael) Bolton. And, I remember running a loop of the course with Jimmy Riccetello and Karen Smyers. And they talked about farts. It was a good time. Of the 80-something finishers in the Junior race, I think that only 9 of us are still racing...some interesting names on there!!
Only Hunter Kemper of the junior team still races. He's always been an athlete that I have admired. He was one of 2 (I think) athletes that have raced all 4 Olympics. My 'claim to fame' in retrospect is that I out raced Hunter that day.
So, it's back to beautiful Muskoka for the 70.3 this weekend. Why a P-500 with a decent field? Pretty simple. I blogged before about not being too fired up about an Ironman/Irondistance race on September 9 which would make a 3 Ironman season. And, I'd already committed to 70.3 Muskoka when I received my 70.3 World Championships roll down slot. I'll follow this up with 70.3 Cozumel and then a trip with Amy to Kona where she will race and I will train and support her. Then it's back to Austin and a season finale like last year in Mexico at IM Cozumel.
