I was born November 23, 1977 in Rochester, N.Y. I have an older brother, Andy (Andrew), and two wonderful parents, Bruce and Marge. I lived in Rochester 18 years and played every sport imaginable: swimming, soccer, tennis, gymnastics, softball (hated it), skiing, basketball, you name it. Starting in 8th grade, I solely focused on swimming to pursue a swimming scholarship to college.
I attended the University of Minnesota on an athletic scholarship. I went from Rochester which is cold to Minnesota where it’s even colder! I was a four-time All-American and part of the 1999 and 2000 Minnesota Big-Ten Championship team. I also competed at the 2000 Olympic Swimming Trials.
Since moving to Austin in 2001, I have been coaching various age-group and master’s swim programs. I feel I’m a natural at teaching and can relate to swimmers of all ages and abilities.
In 2002 I competed in my first triathlon, Danskin, on a mountain bike! Since that time, I have continued to improve in triathlons and competed in the 2005 Hawaii Ironman World championships. I maintain to this day that I didn’t want to go! In June 2006 I made the jump into the professional ranks. As a professional triathlete, I have had success on a local, national, and international level. I’m still not sure what my “best” distance is, but I enjoy the Olympic and 70.3 distance races. I do like the sprints too, because one they start to really hurt, you are done! In addition to several top-10 finishes at US 70.3 events, I finished 7th Overall at the 2007 ITU Long Course World Championships in Lorient, France.
